Why Are Lip Injections So Popular In Edmonton?

You get home from work, you open TikTok, and you see the cleanest, most refreshing ‘that girl’ aesthetic video. While their morning routines might be longer than most workdays, you can’t help but be pulled in. She makes her coffee with a Nespresso machine, she has a cute workout outfit, she does 12-30-3 on the treadmill, and she takes you along with her to her lip injection appointment.

There’s a bit of bruising, but a few days later, your FYP graciously shows you a new video from her account - her lips are plump, lush, and ready for any and all lip colours.

It’s not just the that girls and bougie elder Millennials and Gen X who make regular-ish trips to the medispa for fillers, though. The procedure is barely considered a ‘procedure’ now and has never been more accessible.

Let’s dive into a bit of what fillers are, how to prepare for your next appointment, and discuss where you can find the best lip injections in Edmonton.

What Are Lip Injections?

Lip injections are a low-maintenance cosmetic procedure designed to make the lips appear fuller. Lip filler appointments are short and sweet, are quite safe, and require minimal aftercare.

Lip filler injectables come packaged under a few different brand names, like Juvéderm, Teosyal, Revanesse, or Restylane, but the primary ingredient that provides that desired lush look is hyaluronic acid (HA).

Don’t let the name spook you - HA naturally occurs in the body, and its role is to hold on to water to keep connective tissues lubricated and your skin supple.

A good medical professional will ensure the effects are subtle and gradual - while still being noticeable. HA-based lip injections last about 6 to 9 months, and are easily reversible, so the risks are pretty minimal.

Bonus - the risk of allergic reaction is low, considering that HA naturally occurs in the body already.

The ‘Kylie Jenner’ Effect

Okay, so we’ve had our science lesson - let’s unravel a bit of the mythos around luscious lips.

Travel with us back to the year 2015. Now a wildly successful and wildly rich makeup mogul, in 2015 Kylie Jenner was only 17 and just starting to peek up from around her older sisters’ shadows - and her lips were a hot topic.

It was around this point that Jenner’s influence began to develop into the behemoth that it is today. She knew what to post, when to do it, and how to get her followers talking.

Jenner began work on her now-infamous Lip Kits - who could forget the OG’s of peak 2015-16 fashion: Candy K, Dolce K, and True Brown K. Selling out in seconds, fans and skeptics alike rushed to order the matte lip colour that changed how the beauty community operated from that day on.

Before the launch, Jenner posted photos of subtly plumper lips, saying she only overlined them. Of course, we have to remember that Jenner didn’t owe us an explanation then or now as to what procedures she has undergone - that almost goes without saying. Yet, a handful of years later, we know it was the most subtle of marketing tactics - and lip fillers.

It was this pivotal moment in cosmetic history that took lip fillers from a stigma-riddled ‘plastic surgery’ that older generations quietly underwent to a casual trip to the medispa every so often - all generations welcome.

The Process + What To Expect

At Crave Beauty and Wellness Lab, we’re your destination for gorgeous lip injections in Edmonton.

Before receiving your service, we require all prospective clients looking for lip injections to join us for a consultation. During your consultation, we’ll discuss your goals for your lips, how much filler you’ll need, and provide a price estimate for the procedure.

It’s important to note that getting lip fillers doesn’t mean you’ll have the same lips as Kylie Jenner. Our lip injections will naturally enhance your lip shape rather than provide a dramatic transformation. If a larger size is your goal, this is something that will be achieved over several appointments.

Once your consultation is complete, we’ll move onto the procedure itself - unless you prefer a separate appointment

Here’s how to prepare for your next (or first) lip filler appointment:

  • About a week before your appointment, avoid taking blood thinners like ibuprofen and naproxen unless medically required. Additionally, try to avoid supplements like St. John’s Wort and Ginkgo Biloba - these may increase your chances of bleeding, bruising, and swelling.

  • Avoid alcohol, anti-aging creams and serums that contain retinoids, and save that lip wax for the following week!

  • Make sure you plan your appointment around any special events in your calendar - you’ll likely have swelling for anywhere between 2 to 3 days to up to 2 weeks. Maybe not a prime time for that first date.

Aftercare:

You will have some swelling and bruising for up to 2 weeks after the procedure - this is totally normal. Ice packs are your friend! You can expect to see your final results at the 2 week mark, and we like to see our patients for a follow up appointment to ensure you’re happy with your fillers and so that we can answer any questions you may have.

You may also feel firm spots or lumps after the injection - this is normal as well and will dissipate within a week or so. Your injector will provide aftercare instructions, so be sure to follow them.

Finally, stay hydrated, avoid strenuous exercise, and wait a day before applying makeup. Most of all - enjoy your new lips, and be sure to throw up a bomb IG selfie as soon as you can. (Make sure you tag us!) Why not? Kylie does.
